Youth Sunday School - Holy Spirit

This week we wrapped up the last of three lessons about the Trinity, focusing on the changing power of the Holy Spirit. The first two lessons were more of an overview to the theology concerning the Trinity. We didn't spend lessons looking specifically at the Father or Son because they will come up again during the year. I did want to spend a lesson on the Spirit because we often neglect this important part of the Trinity, often assuming the Holy Spirit is more of an "entity" than fully God. The lesson focused on the changing power of the Holy Spirit in our everyday lives - how this member of the Trinity is with us even though we do not experience God in the flesh.

Here are some questions to talk about with your teen:
  • People are always looking for ways to transform into someone better (prettier, more powerful, more successful, etc.). What are some ways media influences us to sell a "better" image of ourselves?
  • How is a relationship with God going to change us more significantly than man-made changes will?
  • The Holy Spirit works to transform us to be more like Jesus. What are some characteristics of someone who truly follows Jesus?
  • What are some ways the disciples were transformed? (The kids did a worksheet comparing verses in John 14 to other verses about disciples in the New Testament)
