Sunday School: Islam

This past Sunday we continued our World Religions series and learned about the Islam faith. We went over the basics, the doctrine of the faith, their views on God, Jesus, the afterlife, and human nature, the main sects, and their celebrations and holidays. It was a fun lesson because I brought some food that many Muslims would have as part of their sundown dinner at the end of each day during Ramadan. I even brought some spicy peppers and we had a contest to see who could eat one fastest!

Here are some discussion questions that we went over that you can use to talk about this lesson with your teenager:
  • Who do Muslims believe Jesus is? How do you feel about that and why?
  • What if Jesus was not the Messiah and was just a good teacher or prophet? What impact would that have on your faith?
  • How do our religions see God differently? What sets Christianity apart from many other religions in our view of God's nature?
  • How do you feel about their view of our Scriptures?
  • Why do you think God would offer us salvation based on faith, not works? What would life be like if your deeds or actions earned you salvation, so you’d know how you were doing and if you were living up to God’s expectations?
  • What’s the best way to pray for a friend or family member who is a Muslim, and why?
