Summer Bible Study: questions to ponder

Tomorrow at Bible study we'll be discussing the book of John. if you're going into grade 8 or higher I hope to see you there - even if you haven't read everything! Read what you can, bring a breakfast food to share (it's a potluck again) and meet in the youth room at 10am.

Here are some questions to think about ahead of time to help fuel our discussion tomorrow:

- How is John's writing style different than the other books of the Gospel? What do you know about John and how might his life and perspective impact the way he writes (and the audience he is writing to?) If you have a study Bible, you will be able to find information about John's audience and his central goals in writing this book. If you don't have a study Bible, you can look John up on Google (and bring $20 and get a study Bible - we sell them at cost in the Attic!)
- Which stories, chapters, or verses stood out to you the most? Why? What passage impacted you and how?
- What were you confused about or would like more information on?
- Especially when we read through the lens of our culture, some of Jesus's parables might not impact us the way they impacted original audiences. How could you rewrite a parable using terms or concepts familiar to us in Canada to teach the same truths Jesus did?
- How does the telling of Jesus's death and resurrection compare to other Gospel books? When does John include more (or less) detail? Why do you think he does that?
- Which of Jesus' teachings can have the most impact on you and your peers (or teens in general)? Which teachings are easy to ignore? Why?

Parents, these questions will be useful after our study to follow up with your teen! Remember that the full summer reading guide is posted here for everyone to read during the summer.

See you tomorrow!
