May Camp - everything you need to know!

Here is the brochure in case you have misplaced yours.

PARENTS - we will cash cheques within the week :)

Here is a link to Citizens and Saints website so you can check out their music.

Travel:

Meet at church at 3pm. We will leave as soon as everyone is packed up (3:30 at the latest). Please note that some brochures incorrectly say 2pm!! Please try and pack light so we have space for everyone's stuff (but do feel free to bring weekend activities along, just not 10 pairs of shoes or something!). Bring a bagged dinner or cash for dinner - we will stop in Merritt on the way up to eat. If you get motion sickness, Gravol is also a good idea.

We will be leaving camp at 1pm on Monday and are expecting to return by 6pm at the church assuming that there are no accidents on the way home. We are NOT stopping for dinner, unless there is a bad traffic issue that will significantly delay our arrival time at church. We will ask students with phones to text parents when we hit Chilliwack to give enough warning for when to be at church.

What to bring:
  • Clothing for different weather (rain/sun, plus warm clothing for our night game, running shoes for field games, etc.)
  • Swimwear and towel (board shorts for guys and tankinis/one pieces for girls - or wear a tank top on top of a two-piece)
  • BIBLE - everyone forgets this!!!! Don't forget!!
  • Flashlight for night game
  • Bedding - sleeping bag and pillow, OR sheets. No guarantee if you will be in a single bed or a double - double beds might have to share.
  • Toiletries
  • Board games and activities (we have time each night for indoor activities, plus feel free to bring things like frisbees, cards, etc.)
  • CASH - for dinner on Friday, plus this year Green Bay will be running canteen on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, and Citizens and Saints will have a merchandise table
  • TIE DYE SHIRT - if you made on at our kickoff, bring it! We can match!
  • Ladies - bring a dress/skirt for our girls night on Sunday before dinner. We always dress up, take some group photos, etc.

What not to bring:
  • Electronics (phones/iPods) - students are allowed to have their tech on the bus, but I will be collecting it when everyone arrives at camp. I will keep all tech locked in a safe so if students need to contact home, they can just come find me and use it. This prevents damage to devices, theft/misplacing devices, and even being thrown in the lake with your phone in your pocket... happens almost every year, just ask Sheldon! Cameras are allowed! If you are bringing a real camera to take photos, that's fine. Just keep them away from the dock!
  • Alcohol and non-prescription drugs - if you have a prescription please notify me. Parents, if you would prefer for a leader to regulate prescription usage, please also let me know so we can make arrangements.

What churches are joining us?

We do May Camp in partnership with other churches in our denomination (North American Baptist). One of the reasons for camp is to build relationships with other churches. Sometimes we do other things together during the year, such as Clue Game, 30 Hour Famine, and School's Out Party.

Ebenezer in Vancouver, plus their sister youth groups (Pastor Isaac)
Chilliwack Baptist (Pastor Jeff)
Sunshine Ridge in Surrey (Pastor Tim)
Lakeview Heights in West Kelowna (Pastor Chris M.)
Faith Baptist in Vernon (Pastor Chris L.) - this group is new this year!

What are the camp rules?

Please note that in case of serious misbehaviour, we reserve the right to send students home from camp early, either by parents picking them up from Green Bay, or by sending them home on a Greyhound (parents pay expenses). This is very, VERY rare, but worth mentioning just in case. It's pretty easy not to get in trouble. We want you to be at camp!!

  • Chapel is mandatory
  • Respect camp property - take care of rooms, , camp supplies, boats, etc. Don't break stuff. Put the canoes back after use. Don't remove mattresses.
  • Swimwear - for both guys and girls, ensure you follow our guidelines for appropriate swimwear. We want you to have a great time at waterfront, so wear something modest that you can move around in comfortably.
  • No guys and girls in each others' cabins - girls' rooms are for girls, guys' rooms are for guys. No exceptions.
  • Quiet time is 11pm. Green bay is surrounded by private properties, so at 11pm we ask that all campers move indoors (Chapel and Lodge room are available for board games, etc.). Sound really carries on the field and on the dock. All campers must be in their rooms and cabins for 1am lights out.
  • Waterfront - do NOT go beyond the docks without leader permission and supervision, especially if you are using a canoe, kayak, or paddleboard (available during free time only). Life vests are mandatory for those activities.
  • Help meals run smoothly - assign one person from your table to get drinks for everyone. Wait for your table to be dismissed for each meal. Stack chairs when you are done.
