Taking the Sermon Home

This week Pastor Stef preached through James 1:19-27. The passage is very straightforward - it's a call for Christians to live out their beliefs rather than just simply store up head knowledge without actually acting on it.

Here are some talking points for you and your family:

  • Read verse 21. What kind of "filth" do you need to remove from your life? What's stopping you from changing those bad habits/behaviours? What's ONE thing you can work to change this week?
  • This passage says that people who believe in the Bible but don't live out their faith are "fooling themselves." What does this mean? How are they fooling themselves?
  • What guidelines does the Bible give for "controlling our tongues?" What kind of speech is considered sinful? Parents, you can ask your kids to show you how to look up this topic in their Bibles. In Sunday School we have been learning how to search in our Bible indexes/concordances to find topics in the Bible and I'm sure they'd be keen to show you what they've learned!
  • What is one way you can control your tongue better this week?

Don't forget that all sermons are available to listen to online if you ever miss a week!
