Senior High (Grade 11-12)
This week, our small groups will continue their series on some of the sayings of Jesus found in the Gospel of John. This week's discussion is focused on a woman caught in adultery, from John 8. Jesus speaks just a few words in this passage, but he powerfully communicates a message of grace, love, and forgiveness-with a challenge to live life differently.
I'd encourage you to take time this week to talk with your teenager about this story and about the need for grace in our lives. Ask your student about ways to show grace to others. Does your teenager find it easy to extend forgiveness and mercy to people, or is that an area where God is still doing a life-changing work? Here are some other questions that could help launch your conversation:
- Why is it so easy to judge others?
- We're not supposed to judge others-but is judging all bad? How do love and judgment mix together?
- Many people who haven't yet experienced God's grace have negative feelings about talking to Christians about their faith-why?
Junior High (Grade 7-10)
Dear parents,
This week we are starting a new small group series providing a “fresh look” at the New Testament, and we began by looking at the birth of Jesus. We read Luke 2, studying the interaction between some shepherds and angels. It’s a great passage that reminds us of several things:
- We can worship God instead of worrying
- We have the responsibility to both “show” and “tell” others about God’s love
- Every Christmas we can seek or hide from the true meaning of Christmas
- Do you think “peace on earth” is possible?
- Do you spend more time worrying or worshipping?
- What if your friends have heard the “good news” but don’t seem to care? How should you handle that situation? How might it affect your interaction with those friends?
