Just so you know, next week (Jan. 16) all three small groups will be starting a video series called Case for the Creator. This week, the senior high groups will be doing a lesson on spiritual gifts (Pastor Stef preached on this yesterday so we found it highly applicable!). I'm not sure what the junior high groups willbe discussing but I'll try and post about it in the next few days.
If you like to discuss with your students what they are learning, here are the key teaching points from our lesson tonight:
- Primary scripture: Romans 12:6-8
- What: all Christians have recieved spiritual gifts from God to help strengthen the church
- Why: we will discuss how to discover and use these gifts to make a difference NOW instead of sitting on the sidelines
- How: teens will consider what gifts God has given them and will examine how they can use these gifts in ministry.
Some questions to ask your student:
- What do you think of when you hear the phrase "Spiritual gifts?" What are some of your gifts?
- In Romans 12, Paul encourages his readers to use their spiritual gifts well. how does excellence homour God?
- Why doesn't God give the same set of spiritual gifts to everyone?
Hopefully this will spark some interesting conversations... I'm sure most of you have asked what your kid learned at school or church only to hear "nothing!" They are learning, I promise!
