Corn maze recap and ALIVE! this Friday

Hey everyone,

This past Friday night was our annual Corn Maze event. It's one of our students' favourites and seems to be one of the easiest for them to invite new friends to. In previous years, we've had 50-60 students come out for this event, but because we've lost our youngest two grades to the preteen ministry I was expecting about 35-40 at most. We had a whopping 52! We almost had to cancel because we didn't have enough parent drivers until the last minute! Thanks to our volunteer drivers: Simon, Michael, Joe, Cody, Louise and Kevin (and to Christine, Miriam and Janine who were willing to rearrange their schedule if we didn't have enough cars- thankfully we were okay) as well as our youth leader drivers: Bob, Sheldon, Carlon, Kayla and Sue. Our preteen ministry had 42 students, which means we had 94 students from grade 5-12 involved in our Friday night student ministry! If we were still a group of grades 6-12, that would mean we would have had 75+ in attendance - our students have been great about bringing new friends!!! Keep it up guys!!! Sue has posted photos of the maze on her Facebook - be sure to check them out.

Rayna, one of my Student Leadership Team members, will be a guest writer on our blog from time to time. Here is her recap of how things went in the maze:

On Friday we went to the corn maze. It was amazing as always and nobody got lost, which is out of the norm for us since in previous years some of us had to be rescued out by some staff of the corn maze. We also had a huge turnout of over 50 kids! It is fantastic to see BBC youth ministries grow right before my eyes. Thanks to everybody who helped drive, it means a lot to us! -Rayna

Starting tonight, our three small groups will start a four-week series discussing evangelism (sharing our faith with others). This year, we really want to emphasize the importance of this to our students as it is the purpose of our Friday night events. Please be praying for our students as they learn what God's desires are for them as they share their faith with friends!

This Friday, September 30th, is our first Alive! night of the school year. Alive! is designed for non-Christian students who are curious about Christianity and want to learn more. We do worship, games, snacks, a message, and small group discussion. The message and discussion are aimed at non-Christians: no theoligical, over-their-heads Christianese speak here! We aim to have simple, frank conversations about Biblical truths with students. The games are designed to help new students get to know others as well. This year, most of our Student Leaders will be participating as small group leaders and will be paired with an adult leader and a group of 8-10 students. Please pray for our adult and student leaders as they minister to our students and newcomers. The theme for this week's Alive! is 'Why friendship?' and I will be giving a message about why God created us to be relational beings. Teens, please be praying about who you can invite from school this week. I know it can be intimidating!! Remember that no matter how easy it is for us to fit in and be quiet about our faith, God wants us to stand out as Christians and share Him with others! I'll be praying for each of you this week (yes, by name!) and for the friends you can be bringing.
